Kirin was famouse as the biggest beer company in Japan once but now some leading beer companies like Asahi are compating for more sales. Fuji-Gotemba distillery was founded by Kirin Seagram; a joint company of Kirin, Seagram and Chivas Brothers. Seagram and Chivas are still good business partners of Kirin but they have left the business of Fuji-Gotemba in 2002 and the distillery is owned and run by Kirin Distillery Ltd owned 100% by Kirin Beer.

First called as Gotemba Distillery. It was founded in 1973 by Kirin Seagram Co. that is the joint company of Kirin Beer Co., Seagram Co. and Chivas Brothers Ltd. The malt whisky is supplied mostly for blending. The distillery stands in a primeval forest at the foot of Mt. Fuji and is contains also the grain whisky distillery, the blending plant and the bottling plant. The building is modern and big and it seems suitable to call as a factory. The distilley bottled some casks as limited single malt bottlings and the supply is very limited.  Distillery has a visitor centre and a shop.
